silkscreen
During the fall 2019 semester, I took a silkscreen course. I enjoyed experimenting with different designs and subjects. I learned paper stencil and photo emulsion techniques.
The first project was to create 20 additions with 5 color layers. I printed a petri dish and printed some on fabric. On the two additions printed on fabric, I added hand beaded designs mimicking the bacteria culture. Both paper stencil and photo emulsion techniques were used .
For the second project, our class was given a theme: food. I printed a Mister Softee Ice Cream Truck. I chose to print the ice cream truck because it reminded me of the summers I spent in New York. I used photo emulsion to trace over a hand drawn image of the truck and paper stencil to fill in large areas of color.
For the third project, I wanted to recreate a rainbow trout pillow my mom’s friend had before she passed. I printed the design using split fountain and photo emulsion technique, and stuffed the pillows. I also printed on t shirts and tote bags.
